The third season of "Better Call Saul" will feature "Breaking Bad" characters. The showrunners revealed through interviews the characters they want to include in the upcoming season. Furthermore, there is someone who wants to join in again.
Gus Fring will reportedly return in the new season. And in an interview with Variety, co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould shared that they did not expect fans to be so clever enough to decode immediately the hidden clue they have put in the previous season's titles, which spelled out "FRINGSBACK."
However, they are now worried that fans would expect Fring to appear right away in the new season. Gould said, "Personally I think we'd feel a little worried about disappointing the fans if their hopes were raised they would see wall-to-wall Gus Fring next season."
He also mentioned, "We love suspense, we love surprise. But one thing we don't want to do is raise folks' expectations that they're going to see something and then not ever deliver it."
It seems that the showrunners are now bound to really make sure they will deliver Gus Fring in the new season. Furthermore, Gould teased the new season will have more "Breaking Bad" characters too, including the Kettlemans.
Furthermore, another character that they wished to put back in but failed to do so, was Betsy Brandt's Marie. Gilligan told Entertainment Weekly, "I thought it would be a great and organic opportunity to bring back one of our fundamental Breaking Bad characters, and Peter and the other writers rightly talked me out of it."
Meanwhile, original cast Aaron Paul told Variety "Hopefully I will be involved. But I don't know when that may be. I'm not going to say anything more. But I'm absolutely open to the idea. Hopefully it happens. I'm all about it." The actor also added "If I were to be involved, I can promise that it would be done in the most beautiful way, because there's no way they're going to bring Jesse Pinkman back just to bring him back."
Although Paul's cameo has not been confirmed, fans can already expect that Gus Fring will return on season 3.
