Justin Bieber says Jesus freed him from 'bondage and shame' on Easter

Justin Bieber sang his praises to Jesus Christ for Easter Sunday. The pop music megastar and regular churchgoer posted a message on social media to remind fans about what the religious holiday really meant.

The 24-year-old artist told his followers that Easter Sunday is "not about the bunny" in his Instagram post. Bieber took a screenshot of his message that proclaimed Jesus changed him.

"[Easter] is reminder that Jesus died on the cross from my sins and then rose from the dead defeating death," Bieber said. "I am set free from bondage and shame," he added. "He loves me exactly where I am, how I am, for who I am," Bieber went on to say.

But a few hours later, the young star could not resist getting goofy for Easter Sunday. After the serious post, Bieber posted a series of photos of himself wearing bunny ears sunglasses and holding a stuffed rabbit.

The post on Jesus Christ, however, comes just as Bieber is reportedly considering a Christian album for his next project. Sources close to the star revealed that he's looking for materials so he can get started on this new album, which will cover themes about love and redemption.

The Hillsong Church has largely influenced Bieber to seek Jesus. Bieber took refuge in the ministry and Carl Lentz, a Hillsong pastor, after canceling his Purpose World Tour last summer and admitting his inner crisis. The decision came after the young star was involved in a string of controversies, such as driving drunk in Miami and punching a fan in Spain.

"He has found a church family that accepts him and loves him for who he is, not for his fame or money," a source disclosed to People about his regular attendance at the Hillsong Church in Los Angeles.
