The use of digital platforms for reading Scripture reached unprecedented levels in Latin America in the first quarter of 2026. Far from a fleeting New Year’s surge, the trend has remained steady, coinciding with the first anniversary of the YouVersion app’s regional office in Mexico City, established to strengthen support for Spanish-speaking faith communities, according to the press agency El Mensaje Comunicaciones.

The statistics are striking: On Jan. 1 alone, nearly 2 million people subscribed to reading plans, and on the first Sunday of the year, the Bible app surpassed 22.2 million active users in a single day.

The 20% growth from the previous year underscores the spiritual hunger of a region seeking answers in the Bible amid contemporary challenges.

In Mexico, Jan. 11 became the highest single day of usage in the country’s history, with 500,000 active users. Colombia, Argentina and El Salvador also reported record levels of engagement, placing several days in January 2026 within the top 10 of their historical records.

This surge of interest is not limited to the digital space but reflects a broader cultural movement in search of hope and stability.

According to El Mensaje Comunicaciones, the growth aligns with a clear purpose of the platforms: “to listen, create relevant content and accompany what God is doing in communities, ministries and churches across Latin America.”

The success of these tools lies in their ability to foster a daily spiritual habit. As the report notes, the figures reflect a moment in which many people are seeking “spiritual guidance, stability and hope” through constant access to biblical truths.

With a presence in 18 Spanish-speaking countries, efforts to contextualize the biblical message continue to yield visible fruit in the growth of the Latin church.
