New documentary series brings Ukraine war's faith stories to global audience

A five-part documentary series profiling pastors, veterans, and families on Ukraine's front lines will begin streaming this month, offering what its producers call a long-overdue account of faith under Russian military occupation.

Faith in War, produced by FourthSign Productions, premiered on the A Faith Under Siege YouTube channel on Aug. 2 and became available in full on TBN+ on Aug. 6, with weekly broadcast specials to follow, the studio announced.

The series follows a range of subjects — including Ukrainian pastors who remained in occupied territory, a U.S. Green Beret turned deminer, and an American missionary family serving communities near the front lines. Each episode documents firsthand accounts of religious communities navigating displacement, destruction, and the pressures of wartime occupation.

"For too long, Russia's campaign against people of faith in Ukraine has unfolded largely out of public view," said Steven Moore, executive producer of the series. "This series gives a voice to the pastors, families, and volunteers who continue to stand firm in their faith despite extraordinary persecution."

The five episodes take distinct approaches to the broader conflict. One follows Meaghan Mobbs, a U.S. combat veteran and director of Independent Women's Center for American Safety and Security, as she investigates Russia's removal of Ukrainian children. Another tracks retired Army Green Beret Ryan Hendrickson's landmine clearance work in Ukrainian communities. A third chronicles frontline chaplain Mark Sergeev, whose father's megachurch was seized by Russian forces and whose home was destroyed — yet who chose to rebuild. A fourth follows Kyiv pastor Yuri Babinets, who reportedly remained in the city as Russian tank columns advanced. The final episode profiles U.S. Special Forces veteran and missionary Christian Hickey and his family's humanitarian and evangelism work near the front.

FourthSign Productions previously released A Faith Under Siege, a feature documentary on Ukrainian Christians under Russian occupation that aired on TBN, CBN, and Newsmax. The new series has received recognition from several faith-focused film festivals, including the Faith in Film International Film Festival and the Christian Family Film Festival, according to the studio.

"These episodes are about far more than war — they're about people whose faith has remained unshaken in the face of extraordinary adversity," producer Colby Barrett said. "Whether it's a pastor rebuilding after losing everything, a family answering a call to serve, or parents fighting to bring stolen children home, these are stories of courage, sacrifice, and hope that deserve to be seen around the world."

Executive producer Anna Shvetsova said the series is intended to help viewers understand both the human cost of the conflict and the role faith communities continue to play in sustaining life in affected areas.
