The Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption during the Trillion Peso March Against Corruption, held last Sunday (Nov. 30). The event, which saw thousands of Filipinos protesting government corruption, has been hailed as a pivotal moment in the ongoing battle for truth and accountability in the Philippines.
In a statement released on Nov. 27, PCEC underscored the importance of transparency, justice, and rule of law in addressing corruption at all levels of government. The group called for an impartial, non-partisan investigation into corruption allegations, insisting that officials found guilty be held accountable through due process.
The PCEC’s call for action coincided with the Trillion Peso Assembly’s larger effort to rally support for the ongoing anti-corruption movement, which seeks to expose corrupt practices and demand reforms from the government. The Christian leaders highlighted four key legislative initiatives in their statement, urging President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prioritize the bills, which include: the Empowered People Independent Commission, the Freedom of Information Bill, the Anti-Dynasty Bill, and the Blockchain Bill.
The statement also reiterated the PCEC’s support for the Armed Forces of the Philippines and law enforcement personnel, urging them to continue their efforts to maintain peace and order as they uphold their duties to protect the nation.
The Trillion Peso March has gained widespread attention, following the success of the previous march. Christian leaders had earlier called the movement a "miracle," acknowledging its power in uniting citizens from various walks of life in a collective stand against corruption. Participants expressed hope that the growing movement would inspire lasting change and promote the values of integrity, honesty, and justice.
“May truth, accountability, and faith in the Almighty God guide our nation forward always,” said Bishop Noel Pantoja, National Director of PCEC, in the statement. Pantoja also called for continued prayer and fasting, urging the faithful to persist in their commitment to national healing and transformation.
As the anti-corruption march continues to grow, the calls for legislative change and justice remain at the forefront of the public's demands. With more voices joining the cause, the Trillion Peso Movement is becoming an increasingly powerful force in the nation’s fight for a corruption-free government.
