COICOM welcomed Javier Bolaños to its board of directors.

Javier Bolaños, Latin America editor for Christian Daily International and director of its Spanish-language newsroom Diario Cristiano, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of COICOM International, a leading network of Christian communicators across Hispanic America.

COICOM welcomed Bolaños, a Costa Rican journalist with more than two decades of experience in Christian and mainstream media, to the board of the organization, which was founded 33 years ago and continues to expand throughout the Americas.

“We are delighted about the recognition and the trust in Javier that it reflects,” said Gordon Showell-Rogers, international director of Christian Daily International. “As the editor of Diario Cristiano, Javier has brought CDI’s reliable international Christian reporting to audiences which we would never have reached in English alone – building the Spanish edition from scratch and, at the same time, significantly enhancing the English-language edition. We pray that Javier’s addition to the COICOM Executive Leadership will add similar blessings and growth to Christian media across the Americas.”

Arnold Enns, executive president of COICOM, also welcomed Bolaños’ appointment, citing a long-standing professional relationship and confidence in his leadership.

“I am extremely pleased and honored to have Javier Bolaños join our COICOM Board of Directors,” Enns said in comments to Christian Daily International. “I have known Javier for nearly 20 years and admire his professionalism, service, and dedication to God’s work in Latin America. I am confident that his contribution to the Board of Directors will be extremely valuable for the future of COICOM.”

In a statement following the announcement, Bolaños said joining the board was both a personal and professional milestone.

“It is an honor and a privilege for me to join the Board of Directors of COICOM, an organization that I have admired and loved dearly for many years, since I was a journalism student at university,” he said. “COICOM plays an essential role in training, bringing together, supporting, and providing resources to Christian communicators in Hispanic America. It is also a powerful driver of transformation in the region through the most powerful message that the media can spread: the message of the Gospel.”

COICOM said Bolaños’ appointment reflects his long-standing contribution to Christian journalism and media leadership in Latin America. He has more than 20 years of experience across radio, television and print journalism and is known for his commitment to journalistic excellence and deep knowledge of the region.

Earlier in his career, Bolaños served for a decade as general producer of Mundo Cristiano, the Spanish-language news program of CBN News, and later as director of Evangélico Digital. He has also worked as regional producer for Latin America for Global News Alliance.

In addition to his editorial leadership roles at Christian Daily International and The Christian Post Spanish edition, Bolaños has reported internationally on presidential elections, natural disasters and major global sporting events, including the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup tournaments. He has also been a speaker at communications and media events such as COICOM, Expolit and the AGC Summit.

COICOM’s Board of Directors includes Mynor Vargas, chairman; Alex Mejía, treasurer; Napoleón Ardaya, secretary; and board members Ernesto Pinto, Fayra Castro, Juan Carlos Hasbún, Johannes Bleeker, Jorge Elías Sánchez and Ana Belinda Colindres. Enns serves as executive president.

COICOM, which brings together Christian communicators, media professionals and organizations across Latin America and the Hispanic world, focuses on training, collaboration and strengthening Christian witness through media.
