Lutheran churches in Central America held a regional gathering aimed at strengthening fellowship among their communities and consolidating what they described as their “prophetic voice” in response to the social, political, and economic realities of the region. The meeting took place in Comayagua, Honduras, and brought together representatives from various member churches.

The gathering was part of the work of the Communion of Lutheran Churches in Central America (CILCA), a regional coordinating body that promotes pastoral cooperation, theological reflection, and joint social action among the churches.

According to the institutional report, the meeting sought to strengthen church unity and share pastoral experiences, with an emphasis on supporting communities living in contexts marked by poverty, violence, and inequality.

The concept of a “prophetic voice,” emphasized during the gathering, is tied to the public role these churches seek to play in addressing social issues and defending human dignity, based on their understanding of Christian mission in the region.

During the sessions, leaders and delegates exchanged perspectives on the pastoral and social challenges facing their countries while exploring ways to share resources, strengthen church structures, and expand regional cooperation.

The meeting also reaffirmed the churches’ commitment to working together in areas such as theological education, community support, and social action, in line with the mission of the Lutheran communion to preach the Gospel, serve communities, and defend the most vulnerable.

The gathering was part of a series of regional initiatives promoted by the Lutheran World Federation to strengthen collaboration among churches and their participation in public life across Latin America and the Caribbean, especially in response to the social challenges affecting the region.

Participating churches emphasized that fellowship and joint work are key tools for responding to current challenges and maintaining an active pastoral presence in their societies, grounded in faith and social commitment.
