Leaders from across South Korea's Protestant churches convened a strategy meeting to advance preparations for a major evangelization gathering planned for 2027, with organizers describing the event as a potential turning point for the Korean church.

The "2027 Evangelization Grand Assembly for 80 Million Koreans" is being planned by the National Evangelization Movement Headquarters as an interdenominational effort. At the meeting, leaders outlined priorities including a national repentance movement, Holy Spirit renewal, digital media outreach, and the revival of regional joint rallies, according to Christian Daily Korea.

"The 2027 Evangelization Grand Assembly for 80 Million Koreans is not an event for any one denomination or organization — it is a calling of this era that the entire Korean church must build together," said Pastor Lee Tae-hee, president of the headquarters. "It must become a historic turning point that transcends denominations and generations."

Lee framed the assembly less as a mass gathering than as a spiritual movement. "What we are pursuing is not an event that gathers people, but a repentance movement that moves the heart of God," he said. "When the Korean church is restored through prayer and the Holy Spirit, God will grant a new revival among this nation."

Pastor Jang Gyeong-dong, vice president of the headquarters, urged the group to treat digital platforms as a core mission channel. "This is the age of media," he said. "If we actively utilize YouTube and digital platforms to continuously broadcast regional joint rallies and the Word across the country, the influence of the gospel will grow far greater."

Jang also cautioned against letting the event become personality-driven. "More important than the scale of the event is the work of repentance and the Holy Spirit," he said. "The 2027 Grand Assembly must not be a stage that elevates people, but a spiritual restoration movement that gives glory to God."

Pastor Eom Sin-hyeong, the assembly's chief preacher, called church unity the Korean church's "greatest asset" and said the gathering would require cooperation across generational lines. "This is a time that calls for cooperation rather than competition," he said. "When senior leaders, mid-career leaders, and the next generation of leaders join hands in prayer and preparation, God will grant the Korean church a new revival."

The strategy meeting covered plans for regional rallies in metropolitan cities and provinces, the expansion of YouTube and digital content production, and a pan-denominational cooperation framework, Christian Daily Korea reported.

Organizers drew explicit parallels to two earlier milestones — the 1907 Pyongyang Great Revival, a widely cited watershed in Korean Protestant history, and a 1977 national evangelization assembly — saying the 2027 event should carry forward their spiritual legacy.

The headquarters said future work will center on national prayer movements, next-generation evangelization, media mission, and the vision of gospel-centered Korean reunification, with plans to expand partnerships with major denominations, broadcasters, and mission organizations.
