More than 100 women gathered Thursday for the “I Am a Woman” conference, organized by the Women’s Commission of the National Evangelical Council of Peru (CONEP) at the organization’s auditorium.
The event also brought together representatives of the Women’s Commission from different regions of the country through a livestream, although the number of online participants was not specified. According to CONEP, the gathering aimed to strengthen participants’ sense of identity, spiritual lives and sense of purpose.
Psychologist Diana García shared a reflection on women’s personal inspiration and purpose. Pastor Sonia Urrutia de Concha led a session titled “I Am a Woman: Spiritual Self-Esteem,” which focused on understanding identity from a biblical perspective.
Beyond the training sessions, the conference provided an opportunity for national and regional representatives of the Women’s Commission to strengthen their collaboration. CONEP said the initiative was designed to create a space for unity, learning and mutual support among Christian women from different parts of Peru.
The National Evangelical Council of Peru represents evangelical churches, missions and Christian service organizations before the Peruvian government and society. The organization carries out pastoral and missionary work throughout the country.
Strengthening women’s leadership
In recent years, evangelical organizations in Peru and across Latin America have placed greater emphasis on creating spaces for holistic development that address both women’s spiritual lives and the social and emotional challenges they face in their communities.
In this context, initiatives such as “I Am a Woman” seek not only to build support networks between churches in urban areas and those in other parts of the country, but also to affirm biblical identity and the value of women’s leadership amid growing cultural and family challenges in the region.
The ongoing work of CONEP’s Women’s Commission reflects the need to equip local leaders with pastoral, theological and emotional support that can help strengthen communities in different regions of Peru.
