More than 2,400 Christian child welfare leaders from across the United States and at least 50 countries gathered in Atlanta on Wednesday for the opening of CAFO2026, marking the largest attendance in the annual conference's 22-year history.
Hosted by the Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO), the three-day summit at First Baptist Atlanta runs through Sept. 25, bringing together faith-based advocates, adoptive families, and ministry heads to refine best practices for supporting vulnerable youth and families globally.
This year’s theme, "Less: Fewer branches, better fruit," challenges leaders to streamline their efforts rather than continuously expanding programs, focusing on depth and intentionality to maximize their long-term impact.
"Throughout history, Christians have been known for their special care for children the world overlooks," said Jedd Medefind, president of CAFO. "Today we see that ancient commitment rising afresh, from US foster care to ministry with vulnerable children and families worldwide. At CAFO2026, we’ll explore a truth that can feel counterintuitive in a culture that constantly tells us to do more. Sometimes the path to better fruit is fewer branches and less overgrown lives."
The event features more than 200 workshops and strategy sessions spanning foster care engagement, organizational leadership, church mobilization, and practical research. Featured speakers and artists on the mainstage include Lecrae, Dr. Curt Thompson, Katherine Wolf, Kelly Kapic, Shane & Shane, and Medefind.
CAFO serves as an umbrella network connecting more than 300 non-profit organizations alongside a global network of local churches. Participating organizations in the Atlanta area include FaithBridge Foster Care, WinShape Homes, Eagle Ranch, and Send Relief, among nearly two dozen local partners.
